We were in a cafe one afternoon where after the well-deserved latte, Szaffi started to have fun and I started to take pictures of her.
A couple of minutes later I noticed that two guys at the table behind ours were in a deep conversation — they were handsome and sympathetic. Then, at once they had a cuddle and I instantly felt that I want to know their story, get to know their faces and feelings better. When I made eyecontact with them, their reaction was positive so (I, the Cowardly Lion) asked Gabor (no, not Oz) to ask them if they would be okay with me doing a short session with them some day that week. They have let me take a few portraits in that very moment and they opened up so quickly. That felt pretty good. We could not wait for the seaside session! We woke up for a rainy day — that was the only one the whole week — but it did not wash away our good spirits. As soon as we arrived with Szaffi on my back it felt as if we have always known each other. We spent a few hours together this way with Niels and Stephen. The guys told us their story, and we listened happily. Szaffi kept on explaining stuff to them, waving to them just as she does with anyone else she finds nice. Then it hit me, how many times I heard in "disputes" about homosexual people in Hungary that "okay, let them be, but only if they "do their homosexuality" between their own four walls, because then what will I say to my children?!" And then happiness fell onto my heart, light as a feather, that we don't have to say anything to Szaffi because she sees and feels everything she needs to know. We are grateful for the cameras in our hands for bringing the essence of human relationships so close for us. Szandra
